Scottish ultrarunning champion dies during Highlands record attempt 15.04.2026

Scottish ultrarunning champion David Parrish, 35, a former Royal Marine, died on Saturday evening in Kintail, in the north-west Highlands, while attempting to set a new speed record on the challenging 234-mile Cape Wrath trail. The alarm was raised when his tracking device indicated he had stopped moving in the remote mountainous terrain. Police Scotland confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Parrish, who won the Cape Wrath Ultra in 2023, was undertaking this solo, unsupported run to raise funds for Scottish Mountain Rescue in memory of his friend Luke Ireland, who died from hypothermia in 2014. His fundraising efforts have since surpassed £15,000.
