La detención de José Carlos Pérez Asencio, ejecutivo del Banco Santander, ha expuesto la infiltración del Tren de Aragua en el sistema financiero chileno. Pérez Asencio supuestamente facilitó cuentas bancarias para el movimiento de fondos ilícitos de la organización criminal. Esta es la primera vez que un empleado bancario es arrestado en Chile por su presunta conexión con el crimen organizado, abriendo una nueva línea de investigación sobre las operaciones de redes criminales en el país. La pista surgió tras el quíntuple homicidio ocurrido en julio de 2024 en Lampa, donde pericias a un teléfono celular revelaron amenazas del Tren de Aragua a DJs y organizadores de eventos no autorizados, además de comunicaciones clave con el ejecutivo bancario.
