Search ends for missing crew of U.S. ship that overturned in typhoon 17h ago

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for five missing crew members of the U.S.-flagged cargo ship Mariana, which capsized near the Northern Mariana Islands during Super Typhoon Sinlaku. One body was recovered from the 145-foot vessel on April 21, bringing the confirmed death toll to one, with five still missing. The extensive search, lasting over 100 hours and covering an area larger than California, utilized divers, pararescuemen, and a remotely operated underwater drone. The ship, which lost its starboard engines while battling the typhoon with sustained winds of up to 150 mph, went missing after notifying the Coast Guard for assistance.
