Segura: The next government must create fiscal space to face the El Niño phenomenon 07.07.2026

Former Minister of Economy and member of the Fiscal Council, Alonso Segura, warned that the next government faces the critical challenge of generating fiscal space to mitigate the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon. During his intervention on Canal N's program 'Cuentas Claras,' Segura noted that rains could begin at the end of this year, meaning the new administration must act urgently to reinforce defenses and carry out preventive works. The specialist criticized the outgoing government's management for its lack of preparation and suggested that the new regime must begin its management immediately, even working from the transition phase. Likewise, he urged the evaluation of unconstitutionality actions to correct distortions in public spending, such as the 8 billion soles cut in public investment, seeking to avoid the repetition of previous financial errors.
