Steinberg, born in Fresno in 1950, became a titan of the music industry, co-writing five number-one hits in the US with his partner Tom Kelly. His iconic songs, including Madonna's "Like a Virgin," Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors," and The Bangles' "Eternal Flame," defined the sound of the 1980s and 1990s, earning him a Grammy in 1997 and induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011. He is survived by his wife Trina and sons Ezra and Max, with his death occurring just ten days before his 76th birthday.
