The UAE has approved Wegovy, a once-daily oral pill form of the semaglutide drug, significantly expanding its accessibility beyond the previously available injection pens. This new pill form also removes the need for cold-chain storage, simplifying its distribution and use. Initial shipments have arrived, with pricing anticipated to be comparable to Foundayo, ranging from Dh773 for 0.8mg to Dh1,599 for 17.2mg. Regulatory approval was granted following studies demonstrating Wegovy's efficacy in weight management when combined with lifestyle changes, aiming to reduce obesity-related health issues. Clinical trials indicated that the 25mg Wegovy pill resulted in approximately 13.6% weight loss over 64 weeks.
