Senegal–IMF: Convergence of views for the rapid conclusion of a new economic program 04.07.2026

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye met with Zeine Zeidane, Director of the Africa Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The discussions highlighted the IMF's approval of Senegalese tax reforms and a mutual desire to conclude a program with the IMF. This program will aim to maintain public investment, stimulate the private sector, and strengthen social protection. Meanwhile, the Minister of Economy, Cheikh Diba, stated before the National Assembly that Senegal does not intend to restructure its public debt, asserting that financial sustainability objectives are achievable through the current management plan, which is considered less risky for the economy.
