UPDATED: Several Reps Members Defect To NDC 05.05.2026

On Tuesday, 17 members of the Nigerian House of Representatives officially defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). Additionally, Leke Abejide transitioned from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC). These shifts follow the high-profile entry of former Anambra Governor Peter Obi and former Kano Governor Musa Kwankwaso into the NDC on Sunday, May 3, 2026. Welcomed by Senator Seriake Dickson, these leaders cited internal crises, legal disputes, and systemic political hostility within the ADC as primary reasons for their departure. As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, these realignments reflect significant instability within opposition structures, with the NDC positioning itself as a stable, rapidly growing alternative for politicians seeking to avoid factionalism and state-led interference.
