De groep de groep de groep het succes van het gouden shorttrackteam verklaard 21.02.2026

The Dutch short track speed skating team achieved remarkable success at the recent competition in Milan, securing seven medals including five golds, one silver, and one bronze. Jens van ’t Wout earned three gold medals, while Xandra Velzeboer won two. This triumph, with the Assago Forum Arena frequently colored orange, marks a significant achievement for Dutch short track, surpassing long track speed skating in gold medals for the first time. While substantial funding from NOC*NSF and sponsors played a role, the core reason for their success is attributed to an exceptional group dynamic and strong team spirit, fostered by coach Niels Kerstholt and building on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Jeroen Otter. The team emphasized altruism, mutual support, and collective effort, even prioritizing team inclusion over individual wins, as exemplified by Van ’t Wout's insistence on reserve skater Itzhak de Laat participating in the relay.
