Sidi Bouzid poised to become the first Tunisian governorate to exceed 100% electricity self-sufficiency 03.07.2026

Tunisia is embarking on a transformation of its energy model focused on decentralization and the development of renewable energies, aiming for 35% production by 2030 and 50% by 2050. The National Agency for Energy Management (ANME) is prioritizing a territorial approach where governorates become autonomous production units. Sidi Bouzid is on the verge of becoming the first governorate to exceed 100% electricity self-sufficiency, with installed and planned capacity exceeding 400 MW for an estimated consumption of 350 MW, primarily thanks to solar power. Other regions such as Tozeur, Gabès, Gafsa, and Kairouan are also progressing toward increased renewable energy coverage. This diversified transition includes wind, biomass, and waste-to-energy, promoting the development of sustainable territories and reducing regional disparities.
