A 27-year-old lorry driver, Vellaisamy Manikandan, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison and disqualified from driving for 10 years for causing the death of a 45-year-old motorcyclist. The collision occurred on March 25, 2024, at approximately 7:30 am at the junction of Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim and Tuas West Road. Manikandan claimed he could not see the red traffic light due to the sun's glare, believing it had turned green. However, court evidence, including video footage, showed the light was red, and other vehicles had stopped. The motorcyclist was thrown about 10 metres and later died from multiple injuries.
