Situation calm across Dar es Salaam as security presence increases 07.07.2026

On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Dar es Salaam experienced an unusually subdued atmosphere characterized by light traffic and reduced commercial activity. Following warnings from the government regarding planned demonstrations, security personnel were deployed at strategic locations, including major road junctions, bridges, and Bus Rapid Transit infrastructure. By 10am, many shops, fuel stations, and food trading centers like Mabibo Market and Shekilango reported significantly lower numbers of traders and customers. Local workers, including a luggage porter and a bajaji driver, noted a sharp decline in passengers and income. Despite the quiet, Minister for Home Affairs Patrobas Katambi assured the public on July 6 that the country remains secure. He emphasized that the government is prepared to take firm legal action against anyone attempting to organize unlawful protests or threatening national peace and order.
