Høyre-nestleder Ola Svenneby retter oppmerksomheten mot en pågående realfagskrise i Norge, der stadig færre elever velger realfag, noe som står i kontrast til næringslivets behov. Han peker på at andelen studenter i realfag (STEM) i høyere utdanning er 21 prosent, lavere enn EU-gjennomsnittet på 27 prosent, og at andelen videregåendeelever som velger realfag har falt fra 42 prosent i 2015 til 34 prosent i 2025. Samtidig viser nasjonale og internasjonale prøver en nedgang i elevenes ferdigheter i matematikk og naturfag, hvor henholdsvis 31 og 43 prosent av elevene presterer på laveste nivå. Svenneby foreslår drastiske tiltak, inkludert en realfagskommisjon, nivådeling av klasser, mindre bruk av hjelpemidler i eksamen, og en ny strategi som starter i barnehagen. Diskusjonen om forbedring av realfagskompetansen fant sted på Teknisk museum i Oslo, med involvering av elever fra Sysle skole. Stortinget har bedt regjeringen om å utarbeide en nasjonal realfagsstrategi og nedsette en realfagskommisjon for å styrke kompetansen gjennom utdanningsløpet.
