SoftBank's Masayoshi Son says AI will need $5 trillion per year by 2040, dismisses bubble talk 14.07.2026

SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son declared on Tuesday that the development of artificial intelligence will demand $5 trillion in investment each year by 2040, and called any talk of an AI bubble "absurd." Speaking at SoftBank's annual corporate conference in Tokyo, Son stated, "Every year $5 trillion, or 800 trillion yen, you might think that's a lie, but I am confident that's what it will cost." He justified the massive expenditure by projecting that AI revenue would make up 20% of global GDP by 2040, making the annual spending a "rounding error." Son did not provide details on how he derived the $5 trillion figure or the GDP projection.
