US soldier charged with using Maduro intel to win €341k on Polymarket 24.04.2026

A US special forces member, Gannon Ken Van Dyke, aged 38, has been charged by the Justice Department for allegedly using classified information from a January mission to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro to win over $400,000 (€341,000) on the online betting platform Polymarket. Van Dyke, involved in the operation from December 28, 2023, reportedly signed non-disclosure agreements but placed bets between December 30, 2023, and January 2, 2024, predicting Maduro's removal from power by January 31. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission also filed a parallel complaint, detailing Van Dyke's transfer of $35,000 (€29,000) to a cryptocurrency exchange to fund these wagers. The betting activities, which generated substantial profits, have led to calls for increased regulation of prediction markets and underscore national security concerns.
