Sombere start: meerderheid verwacht geen verbetering met nieuw kabinet 23.02.2026

Following the inauguration of new ministers and state secretaries at Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague, the new minority cabinet, comprising D66, VVD, and CDA, faces significant challenges with limited public confidence. Only one in three Dutch citizens trusts the new cabinet, a figure lower than the initial trust in the previous Schoof cabinet. Distrust is particularly prevalent among voters of opposition parties, especially on the right, who perceive the coalition as a "hodgepodge" and "voter deception." A significant concern is the perceived political ambiguity of the cabinet, with VVD voters fearing "too left-wing" policies and CDA, D66, and GL-PvdA voters worried about VVD dominance. Furthermore, a substantial 78% of the public expects the cabinet not to complete its full term, a sentiment shared by a majority of coalition voters. Skepticism also surrounds the cabinet's ability to address key issues like poverty and healthcare, with two-thirds anticipating deterioration.
