Thien, who lived alone with his roommate of five years, Uncle Choo, and was unmarried, was a quiet and unassuming individual who dedicated his time to his art. His creations, often inspired by his lifelong passion for Chinese opera, were a source of joy and pride for the local community. Thien also engaged with more traditional art forms, including portraits of opera characters drawn on paper. He had previously expressed shyness about his popularity, noting in a 2020 interview that his art was a simple way to express himself.
