Sony Calls it Quits: PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita to Close by July 2027 03.07.2026

The Japanese console manufacturer is ending digital sales on two older platforms. Sony has announced that it will permanently shut down the PlayStation Store on the legacy PS3 and PS Vita consoles. In some Latin American and Middle Eastern markets, the closure begins this year, while it is expected to be completed worldwide by July 2027. After this date, owners will no longer be able to purchase new digital games or content, although previously purchased titles should remain available for download. Sony justifies the move by citing the transition to modern retail systems and payment standards that the old hardware can no longer support. The PS3 was released in 2006 and the PS Vita in 2012; both have been out of production for years.
