Spain's lower house calls on PM Sanchez to resign in non-binding vote 25.06.2026

Spain's fragmented lower house of parliament passed a non-binding resolution on June 25, 2026, calling on Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to resign due to a series of corruption scandals plaguing his centre-left Socialist Party and his inner circle. The motion was approved by 177 votes in favor, 171 against, with one abstention in the 350-seat chamber. Supporting parties included the main opposition People's Party (PP), their far-right allies Vox, and the pro-Catalan independence party Junts, which had previously enabled Sanchez to win a second term in 2023 but withdrew its legislative support last October. The resolution argues that the mounting number of investigations into corruption cases involving political figures appointed or supported by Sanchez requires him to take responsibility by resigning.
