Elon Musk's Starlink blocked from operating in Namibia 24.03.2026

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (Cran) has denied Elon Musk's Starlink a license to operate in the country, citing a lack of local ownership as a primary concern. This decision marks a second significant regulatory hurdle for Starlink in southern Africa, following similar challenges in South Africa. Namibian law mandates that at least 51% of telecommunications companies must be locally owned, a requirement Starlink's Namibian subsidiary did not meet. Cran previously issued an order against Starlink in 2024, accusing it of operating without a license and warning the public against purchasing its services. Starlink has not yet commented on the Namibian ruling, while Musk has previously attributed such setbacks in South Africa to "racist ownership laws" and criticized black economic empowerment policies.
