Between Wednesday and Sunday, the Ukrainian army successfully recaptured 201 square kilometers of its territory, marking the largest territorial gain since June 2023. This significant advance, detailed in an ISW data analysis, is attributed to Ukraine exploiting a Starlink blockade affecting Russian forces. Russian military bloggers reported that this disruption impaired Russian communication and command capabilities. The ISW noted that this blockade, implemented after US tech entrepreneur Elon Musk announced measures on February 5th to curb Kremlin use of the technology, has hindered Russian drone operations which previously used Starlink to bypass electronic jamming. Ukrainian gains were concentrated east of Zaporizhzhia, an area where Russian troops had advanced significantly since summer 2025.
