Starmer warns Iran’s attempts to destabilise British society ‘will not be tolerated’ 05.05.2026

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has warned that Iran's attempts to destabilise British society by inciting antisemitism will not be tolerated, following a terror-declared knife attack in Golders Green on April 29. He announced enhanced security measures for the Jewish community, including an additional £1m in funding, supplementing £25m pledged last week. The government is investigating foreign state involvement and will rush new legislation to counter state-backed threats, potentially proscribing Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Parkinson has issued guidance to fast-track hate crime prosecutions, and an independent audit will review systems for handling antisemitism allegations. Starmer vowed a "zero tolerance" approach on university campuses and in the arts, with funding withdrawal for those promoting antisemitism.
