State gets tough on asylum seekers breaking law 14.07.2026

In a major crackdown, Cypriot authorities have revoked asylum status for nearly 100 people, with 95 individuals—80 of them Syrian nationals—losing their protection due to criminal involvement, as reported on Monday. Acting on instructions from Deputy Migration Minister Nicolas Ioannides, the Asylum Service initiated these revocations, leading to deportation orders. Additionally, the government is revoking residency permits for Indian nationals who participated in violent scuffles in Limassol in May and will strip international protection from Syrian nationals involved in a recent street brawl in Xylofagou. These measures aim to send a clear message that law-breaking will not be tolerated and will result in immediate deportation.
