State Secretary’s Office: Only Negeri Sembilan ruler can appoint or remove DKU secretary 03.06.2026

The Negeri Sembilan State Secretary’s Office clarified on June 3 that only the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, possesses the authority to appoint, suspend, terminate, or replace the secretary of the Dewan Keadilan Undang (DKU). The DKU secretary’s position is governed by Clause 25 of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution 1959, stipulating that the role is held at the ruler’s discretion. This statement follows an announcement on May 29 by several Negeri Sembilan ruling chiefs regarding the purported indefinite suspension of DKU secretary Raja Norazli Raja Nordin, citing his failure to call a special DKU meeting concerning a royal and customary dispute. Raja Norazli, however, refuted the suspension, asserting his appointment by Tuanku Muhriz and his obligation to the ruler. The underlying dispute stems from the removal of Datuk Mubarak Dohak as Undang of Sungei Ujong, a decision officially recognized after a DKU special sitting on April 17, and subsequently, an unsuccessful attempt by Mubarak and some ruling chiefs to remove Tuanku Muhriz as Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
