Stühlerücken nach Olympia: Nicht nur Horngacher geht 23.02.2026

The German Ski Federation's Nordic/Biathlon division experienced a disappointing performance at the recent Olympics, securing only three medals compared to nine in 2022, with ski jumping coach Stefan Horngacher departing after seven years following a single gold medal from Philipp Raimund. Sports director Horst Hüttel is seeking a successor for Horngacher, with Austrian coaches Alexander Stöckl and Thomas Thurnbichler as frontrunners, and a decision expected in March. The women's ski jumping team and the Nordic combined team also failed to win medals for the first time in years, though their coaches, Heinz Kuttin and Eric Frenzel, are expected to remain. Biathlon saw its worst Olympic result in 50 years with only a bronze medal, and sports director Felix Bitterling will move to the IBU, while the men's and women's coaches will stay. Cross-country skiing coach Peter Schlickenrieder will step down in 2027 after nine years, transitioning to an advisory role.
