Stopped at security: "I started crying" 07.07.2026

Ida Ottesen (25) was stopped at security at Oslo Airport while traveling to a wedding in Haugesund. She was carrying an ash jewelry piece containing the ashes of her deceased cat, "Tigeren," who died in 2021. Security guards believed the jewelry resembled a cartridge and refused to let her take it through. Ottesen experienced poor communication and felt intimidated when several guards gathered around her. She offered to open the jewelry, but they were uninterested. Ultimately, she had to leave the security area, mail the jewelry home, and go through security again to make her flight. She has filed a formal complaint with Avinor. Avinor confirms they have received the complaint and apologizes that Ottesen found the situation unpleasant, but emphasizes that the security check was handled in accordance with current procedures.
