Straumēšanas platformām Latvijā varētu noteikt pienākumu ieguldīt vietējā kino un seriālu veidošanā 07.07.2026

Kultūras ministrija proposes new regulations requiring streaming platforms to invest in local Latvian film and series production. These requirements would apply to both locally registered providers and EU-based services targeting the Latvian audience. The proposed law mandates that providers invest at least 3.5% of their annual Latvian revenue into local content, either by purchasing distribution rights or contributing directly to the National Film Center (NKC) budget. This initiative aims to boost high-quality audiovisual content in the Latvian language and increase its accessibility. Currently, 26 services are registered in Latvia, while approximately 80 other EU-based platforms, including Netflix and Disney+, operate in the market. If implemented, these changes could bring an estimated 600,000 euros annually to the NKC. The final decision regarding these legislative amendments rests with the Saeima.
