Streit um Druschba-Pipeline: Ungarn droht mit Blockade von 90-Milliarden-Euro-Kredit an die Ukraine 21.02.2026

Hungary is threatening to block a €90 billion EU loan package for Ukraine, demanding the resumption of oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced on X that the loan will remain blocked until oil supplies to Hungary are restored, which have been interrupted since late January due to alleged Russian bombings, according to Ukrainian authorities. Both Hungary and Slovakia, heavily reliant on the pipeline, accuse Ukraine of intentionally preventing the resumption of deliveries. Ukraine, however, views Hungary and Slovakia's continued purchase of Russian oil and gas as financing Russia's war effort. Szijjártó also accused Ukraine of blackmail and colluding with Hungarian opposition and Brussels to inflate fuel prices ahead of Hungarian elections, where Prime Minister Viktor Orbán faces a potential electoral challenge. The EU loan, intended to cover Ukraine's financial needs until the end of 2027, with €60 billion earmarked for defense, had previously received agreement from EU leaders and the European Parliament, with only the Council of Member States' approval pending.
