HS student, nakagawa ng pesticide mula sa dahon ng neem tree at bao at bunot ng niyog 26.03.2026

A high school student from Calasiao, Pangasinan, Keithlyn Oiga of Comprehensive National High School, has developed organic pesticides using neem tree leaves and coconut husks and coir. These natural pesticides are reportedly effective against agricultural pests like cecid flies, which damage mangoes, and fall armyworms, which attack corn crops. Oiga’s research indicates that the neem-based pesticide kills cecid flies in under an hour, while the coconut-based pesticide eliminates fall armyworms in less than thirty minutes. This innovation offers a safer, more economical, and locally sourced alternative to chemical pesticides, with Oiga willing to share her methods with farmers.
