„Der gleiche Jahrgang wie mein Vater“ – Online-Nutzer staunen über einen Student im 68 Semester 19.02.2026

The Administrative Court of Schleswig has denied a student's claim for housing benefits after he had been enrolled in university for 68 semesters, spanning over 34 years. The 1965-born man initially studied economics from 1985, earning a diploma after 28 years, and then began a philosophy degree which he abandoned in 2023 without completion. His housing benefit applications were rejected, leading to a lawsuit, but the court ruled his prolonged studies constituted an abusive claim, suggesting he could pursue part-time employment to cover living costs. The court also questioned the student's genuine pursuit of his education, citing a lack of concrete study plans and the sheer duration as indicators of non-serious academic intentions. This case, which gained significant attention online, is not isolated, with similar rulings against long-term students in Mainz and other cases involving citizen's allowance.
