Students caught using ChatGPT during national exams as Necta cancels 58 results 07.07.2026

The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (Necta) has taken decisive action against examination malpractice during the 2026 examination cycle. During the announcement of results in Dar es Salaam, Necta Executive Secretary Professor Said Mohamed revealed that the council canceled the results of 58 candidates found guilty of cheating. Additionally, results for 190 candidates were withheld due to various irregularities. The identified malpractices included the use of mobile phones to access ChatGPT, bringing unauthorized notes into examination rooms, and colluding with other candidates. The withheld results comprise 184 candidates from the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE), five from the Diploma in Primary Education Examination (DPEE), and one from the Diploma in Secondary Education Examination (DSEE). Professor Mohamed confirmed that those with withheld results will be permitted to resit their examinations in 2027 following official regulations.
