Study: AI tool gives pathologists 'super vision' to detect cancers 07.05.2026

Australian scientists have developed an AI tool called STimage that enhances pathologists' ability to detect cancers by analyzing tissue samples. This machine learning tool, utilizing spatial biology, accurately predicts various cancers, including breast, skin, and kidney, as well as a liver immune disease, while also assessing prognosis and treatment response. Published in Nature Communications, the study highlights STimage's reliability, low cost, and rapid, interpretable results, potentially revolutionizing digital pathology and precision medicine. Associate Professor Quan Nguyen stated the tool offers "super resolution vision" by identifying millions of invisible biomarkers and mathematically computing diagnostic certainty, aiming to assist, not replace, pathologists by providing insights into cell types and genetic activity beyond human visual capabilities.
