Sudan accuses Ethiopia, UAE of being behind recent drone attacks 05.05.2026

Sudan has formally accused Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of orchestrating recent drone attacks on Khartoum International Airport, which forced a three-day suspension of operations, and recalled its ambassador from Addis Ababa in protest. The Sudanese military alleges that four drone attacks have been launched from Ethiopian territory since early March, with the UAE providing the drones. Ethiopia has dismissed the claims as "baseless," counter-accusing Sudan of supporting rebels in its Tigray region, a charge denied by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF). The UAE has not commented directly but has previously denied backing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Analysts warn these accusations mark a dangerous regional escalation in Sudan's civil war, which has killed over 150,000 and displaced 14 million, as both nations suspect the other of fueling their internal conflicts.
