Sudan accuses Ethiopia and UAE of orchestrating drone attacks on airport 05.05.2026

Sudan accused Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of orchestrating drone strikes on Khartoum's main airport on Monday, describing it as "direct aggression." The attacks also targeted military installations in Greater Khartoum, ending a period of calm after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were pushed out last year. Sudan's army cited "conclusive evidence" from the state-run Sudan News Agency (Suna) that drones were launched from Bahir Dar airport in Ethiopia, prompting Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem to recall the ambassador to Ethiopia. Ethiopia dismissed the claims as "baseless," while the UAE has not commented but previously denied supporting the RSF. The assault caused minor damage and a 72-hour airport shutdown. Since the civil war began in 2023, over 150,000 people have died and 12 million have been displaced, per the UN.
