Lawyer and researcher Alok Prasanna Kumar expressed surprise at being singled out by the NCERT director, Dinesh Saklani, regarding the controversy surrounding the Class 8 social science textbook's chapter on the judiciary. Kumar, along with Michel Danino and Suparna Diwakar, was named by the Supreme Court for allegedly drafting the chapter on "corruption in judiciary" without acknowledging the collaborative process or other contributors. Kumar's affidavit emphasizes that textbook authorship was not individual and that his contributions were part of a larger team effort involving fifteen contributors and extensive feedback from various NCERT departments and reviewers. He argues that the Supreme Court's order to disassociate from him infringes upon his right to livelihood and freedom of speech, as the chapter's content was based on publicly available information and aimed to educate students about challenges faced by institutions, including the judiciary, in line with the National Education Policy.
