Swedish Transport Administration blocks off summer house – without warning 07.07.2026

A family in Kungälv has filed a complaint with the Parliamentary Ombudsman (JO) against the Swedish Transport Administration after the authority blocked off the driveway to their summer house in Hålta with a guardrail without warning. The property has been owned by the family since the 1940s and holds a valid public easement from 1945 that grants the right to a three-meter-wide road. Despite this, the Swedish Transport Administration has blocked access, hindering both the family and essential services such as waste collection. The family claims the authority is exploiting a loophole to close roads without consulting the property owner or offering compensation. After seeking legal remedy through the Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden), the Swedish Transport Administration only opened a narrow passage for pedestrians, which does not meet the family's need for vehicle access. The Parliamentary Ombudsman is now reviewing the case and has requested a response from the Swedish Transport Administration.
