Swieqi Council Raises Alarm Over Lack Of Action On Tourism Pilot Ahead Of Summer 23h ago

The Swieqi Local Council has expressed significant concern over the lack of progress on a government pilot project aimed at addressing tourism-related issues, warning residents are bracing for another difficult summer. In a letter to Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Ian Borg, Mayor Noel Muscat highlighted that a project announced in September 2025, intended to tackle short-let accommodations, traffic, noise, waste, and enforcement, has shown no visible progress or tangible improvements despite ongoing discussions. The council is urging the Deputy Prime Minister to provide clarity on planned actions, implemented measures, and immediate steps to be taken, alongside a long-term commitment to preserve the area's residential character and liveability, emphasizing resident expectations for concrete action and accountability.
