Switching from variable to fixed energy contract can save hundreds of euros per year 07.07.2026

An analysis by Gaslicht.com shows that switching from a variable to a fixed energy contract can save up to 430 euros annually. Around July 1st, many suppliers adjust the rates for variable contracts, which can mean significant costs for the 2.6 million Dutch households with this type of contract. While gas and electricity prices on the international market have risen due to the conflict in the Middle East, fixed contracts often offer lower rates and attractive welcome bonuses that can amount to as much as 400 euros. For an average consumption of 1300 kWh of electricity and 1000 m³ of gas, the savings from switching to a one-year fixed contract can be substantial. It is crucial to compare, as variable rates can increase multiple times a year without consumers noticing immediately.
