Tabung Haji: Concealing Zamzam water in bags may result in luggage being opened and delayed 03.06.2026

Haj pilgrims are being warned by Tabung Haji that concealing extra Zamzam water in their luggage can lead to complications, including luggage being opened and delayed by Saudi authorities. Mohd Ridzuan Yusoff, deputy director of Haj Pilgrims Operations, stated that despite repeated reminders, some pilgrims still attempt to smuggle larger quantities of Zamzam water, which violates airline and Saudi regulations. While attempts to hide the water by wrapping it are made, screening processes can detect it, resulting in luggage inspections that risk misplacing or damaging personal belongings. Pilgrims are advised to adhere to regulations and utilize the City Check-In (CCI) facility, which allows luggage to be checked in up to 48 hours before departure, simplifying their return journey and reducing the burden of carrying excess bags. The maximum baggage allowance remains 30kg per pilgrim, irrespective of the number of bags.
