Tania Pariona questions law preventing police and military from being tried in common courts: "Repeats the pattern of impunity" 07.07.2026

Former congresswoman and Secretary General of the CNDDHH, Tania Pariona, harshly criticized the new legislation that prevents police and military personnel from being tried in common courts. During an interview on La República's program 'Sin Guion,' Pariona stated that this measure expands the concept of "offense committed in the line of duty" (delito de función), allowing military and police institutions to conduct their own internal investigations. According to the specialist, this trend, driven primarily by Fujimorism, seeks to consolidate a regime of impunity that repeats historical patterns of the past. Pariona warned that these laws contravene the national legal framework and represent a danger to human rights and the rule of law. Furthermore, she denounced the harassment of judges who attempt to set aside these norms and expressed her concern regarding attacks against spaces of historical memory, such as the El Ojo que Llora memorial.
