Tanzania’s beauty industry eyes a piece of $590 billion global market 07.07.2026

Tanzania’s beauty industry professionals, including hairdressers, barbers, and nail technicians, are striving for formal recognition as vital contributors to the nation's creative economy. As the global beauty and personal care market reaches $590 billion, local practitioners are seeking to capture a share of this growing sector. To facilitate this, the government is supporting the launch of the Tanzania Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association (CCT) to organize practitioners. Minister Paul Makonda announced plans to register salons and issue official identification cards to improve visibility and safeguard worker rights. Furthermore, the government aims to assist salon owners with financing and encourage language training to prepare for international events like the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. By transitioning from perceived service providers to recognized creative entrepreneurs, the sector aims to drive employment and economic growth for Tanzanian youth and women.
