A landmark study led by Imperial College London has found that focal therapy, a less invasive treatment for prostate cancer using high-intensity ultrasound or freezing cryotherapy, offers long-term cancer control comparable to surgery or radiotherapy but with significantly fewer side effects. The 10-year NHS study followed nearly 3,500 men, mostly with intermediate or high-risk prostate cancer, and found that only two had died from the disease a decade after treatment. This outcome matches the effectiveness of traditional treatments, yet the risk of side effects such as urine leakage or loss of sexual function was less than half.
