Tödlicher Skiunfall in Österreich: Familienvater fällt mit dem Kopf voran in den Schnee und erstickt 22.02.2026

A 52-year-old Dutch man died after a fatal skiing accident in the Zillertal Arena in Tyrol, Austria, on Saturday, February 21st, 2026. While skiing with his wife and daughter on piste number 13a, he veered off-piste into deep snow. When he failed to meet his family at their agreed meeting point and did not answer his phone, ski lift employees were alerted. They found him around 4:15 PM, approximately seven meters off the piste, with his head buried in the snow. Despite resuscitation efforts and transport to Innsbruck Clinic, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening, February 22nd. This incident follows a similar tragedy in St. Anton am Arlberg and occurs amidst dangerous avalanche conditions in the Alps, which have claimed seven lives in Austria since Friday, February 20th.
