A North Carolina teenager has died from a rare and often fatal infection caused by the Naegleria fowleri amoeba, state health officials confirmed. The teen's death occurred just days after an 8-year-old girl in Louisiana also died from the same infection. In a GoFundMe post, the teen's mother shared that his first symptom was "severe headaches," adding, "I never imagined that something like this could be so serious."
