Tekst fatbikeverbod aangepast: woorden 'intimidatie' en 'achtervolgingen' weggehaald 04.03.2026

Amsterdam's municipal council has amended the proposed text for a bylaw that would allow for fatbike bans, removing terms like "intimidation" and "chases" at the request of council members. This adjustment, detailed in the latest council meeting minutes, aims to make the descriptions of problematic fatbike behavior more generic, addressing concerns that the original wording unfairly targeted young people. Councilors from GroenLinks, Denk, and PvdA advocated for the changes, with councilor Elisabeth IJmker expressing discomfort about stigmatizing a specific group. While the amended text still cites "hindrance and speeding" as reasons for potential bans, it also emphasizes that any fatbike restrictions must be proportional and that individuals will be permitted to walk with their fatbikes through restricted areas. Despite some opposition, the council approved the amended proposal, granting the municipality the authority to implement fatbike bans, though specific locations like Vondelpark have yet to be decided.
