Telangana Electric RTC buses will reduce daily CO2 emissions of 1,200 tons: TGSRTC MD Nagi Reddy 17.03.2026

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is accelerating its transition to electric buses to significantly reduce its substantial carbon footprint, which currently contributes approximately 1,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions daily from its fleet of 10,081 buses. TGSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director V. Nagi Reddy highlighted that the daily consumption of nearly 6 lakh litres of diesel by these buses is a primary driver for this shift, as directed by the Telangana Government. The corporation already operates 400 electric buses within the city and 550 inter-city electric buses, with an additional 200 set to be introduced soon, and 2,000 sanctioned under the PM e-Drive scheme. The long-term vision includes transitioning 35% of the fleet to electric by 2030 and phasing out diesel buses entirely by 2039, supported by infrastructure like solar systems at 51 locations.
