Tesla has agreed to enter mediation to potentially resolve a lawsuit filed by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in September 2023. The lawsuit, which alleges that Tesla tolerated severe and widespread racial harassment of Black employees at its Fremont, California, assembly plant, could see negotiations begin in March or April. The EEOC stated that if mediation fails, both parties will propose next steps to the presiding judge by June 17, and has requested a pause on evidence-gathering deadlines to prioritize settlement discussions. Tesla has previously denied awareness of the harassment and accused the agency of seeking publicity.
