Thaksin set for full release under royal pardon, avoiding Sept 9 wait 02.06.2026

Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is slated for immediate full release from his sentence, bypassing the original September 9 end date, due to a new royal pardon decree published in the Royal Gazette. This decree, effective from June 3, marks Her Majesty the Queen’s 4th Cycle Birthday Anniversary and allows for the release of parolees with less than one year remaining on their sentence. Thaksin, who was serving the final portion of a one-year sentence commuted from eight years, had been on parole since May 11, under electronic monitoring, with his term set to officially conclude September 9. The new decree's provisions, specifically Section 8, apply to his remaining sentence, which is well under the one-year threshold, thus facilitating his complete discharge and removal of probation and EM monitoring requirements.
