The Big Check for the Start of the Holidays 03.07.2026

With the distribution of report cards to nearly 500,000 students in Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland on Friday, the holidays have officially begun, triggering a wave of travel. Despite higher fuel prices and inflation, Austrians' desire to travel remains unbroken. An analysis by Holidu shows that the classic destinations Croatia, Austria, Italy, Greece, and Spain remain the most popular, with Austria surprisingly taking second place ahead of Italy and Greece, even though domestic holidays are the most expensive, averaging 204 euros per night. According to the "Ruefa Reisekompass 2026," the planned average travel budget per person is 2,209 euros for a main holiday of approximately twelve days, with budgets varying depending on generation and region.
