The Building That Prints Dollars 04.07.2026

While observing the facility where US dollars are printed, the author and his brother-in-law, Rajan, both had an emotional experience thinking of their mothers and mothers-in-law. Departing from Dallas, the brother-in-law and brother-in-law observed the American currency printing process after approximately 30 years. Under strict security measures, visitors were taken to the observation room after being checked by digital machines and required to leave items such as mobile phones and watches outside. With the assistance of a young man named Nirjal Kharel, information was obtained regarding the eight different rooms and their respective processes in dollar printing. In this process, tasks such as shaping raw materials into sheets, offset printing, intaglio, finishing, stacking, cutting, and packaging are completed by modern machines. One billion dollars are printed in a year, and this process has been ongoing since 1862.
